The Benefits of Getting An Autism Evaluation
For one thing, Heather says that for many adults with ASD, “receiving an official diagnosis can be a life-changing experience.” A diagnosis can validate their struggles and provide them with an answer to many questions they’ve had about their experience.
“Before being diagnosed, many people on the spectrum may struggle to understand why they think, feel, and communicate differently from other people.”

Additionally, a diagnosis can provide other benefits like:
- No longer having to hide or mask your symptoms
- Understand your own strengths and weaknesses
- Finding a therapist or mental health provider who understands your experience
- Receiving accommodations like flexible work schedules and helpful technology
- Finding neurodivergent-affirming groups that can help improve social support and a sense of belonging
- And being able to advocate for yourself and your needs with employers, teachers, and loved ones
