Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Now Being Offered for Treatment-Resistant Depression
Nystrom & Associates recently celebrated the introduction of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) at its Eden Prairie, Minn. and Iowa City, Iowa, clinic locations.
TMS applies a magnetic field to activate brain regions linked to mood in treating Major Depressive Disorder when medications have proven ineffective. Research indicates that TMS can alleviate depressive symptoms in 60-80% of patients.
"When people are depressed it's hard to function. We're excited to offer TMS because it broadens patient access to this transformative treatment and it offers hope and remission for those who need it most," said Mike Chappuis, vice president, Medical Services.
