More About Alizandra Johnson
Clinical Interests:
I have primarily worked with adults in recent years. I have extensive knowledge and experience with substance use disorder. I have extensive experience working with adolescents, specifically those in out of home placements, Anishinaabe individuals, and survivors of trauma. I have knowledge of and/or experience working with survivors of sex trafficking/exploitation, those in the legal system, developmental disabilities, LGBTQ+, spiritual issues, codependency, anger issues, and relationship issues. I have a special interest in working with individuals who struggle with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship/family issues, and life transitions.
Clinical Approach:
The therapeutic alliance is most important to me. I take a person-centered approach. You are the expert of your experience. I am here to support and guide you on your journey in healing. However, I will respectfully challenge you on your behaviors, thoughts, and beliefs with your permission when I feel it is warranted. Specific approaches I use are: motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, CBT, aspects of DBT, strengths-based, and incorporating spirituality/religion if it is important to you. I use person-in-environment theory in my practice as well.
Hobbies:
I enjoy spending time with family and my 3 cats. I love animals and welcome any pictures you would like to share. Some things I enjoy are jigsaw puzzles, diamond art, reading, and cooking/baking. I have a deep passion for foraging and I am often out walking or camping to look for edible mushrooms.
