More About Anna Patricia Grgurovic
Clinical Interests:
I have held roles as an adolescent day treatment psychotherapist, a systemic family therapist here at Nystrom- Apple Valley, and I’ve also held roles as a licensed school counselor at several Minnesota Public Schools. I enjoy working with adolescents especially middle to high school aged, as that is generally a momentous time in our lives. Due to my passion for systems work, I also enjoy working with adults that have frequent interactions with children and adolescents. Whether that is in parenting or in their careers, I like working with individuals or families experiencing a variety of issues and concerns related to the different environments that they occupy. Some common diagnoses I have worked with in the past include major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as disorders that fall under the disruptive, impulse, and conduct categories. Some common issues also include topics on race, gender, social class, education, and its impact on our self and relationships. I work with a variety demographics (age, race, multilingual, gender, etc.) and have a focus in helping people understand multiculturalism in relation to their identity. Specifically, how cultural identity impacts our mental health.
Clinical Approach:
My clinical approach is largely systemic due to my background and systemic family therapy and my field of study in family studies and human development. Depending on the presenting concerns, I am able to adapt which modalities will better suit the individual or family I am working with while remaining under an umbrella of systems theory. Most commonly, I integrate cognitive behavior therapy skills with DBT-related skills when managing symptoms. However, depending on client age and abilities, I also incorporate narrative therapy techniques, play therapy techniques, incorporating spirituality, Gestaltian methods, multicultural identity work,
and much more. My goal in working with my clients is to empower them to know that they are an expert in their own life. Our work together is collaborative from the beginning to ensure that what we do is able to meet their needs.
Hobbies:
In my spare time, I like to garden. Which means that there is a season for growing and a season for preserving what I grow. I enjoy baking and cooking for friends and family. Lastly, I find it crucial in life to include a healthy dose of books, film, and television!
