More About Asher Rooks
Clinical Interests:
I am passionate about working with kids ages 3-17 as well as young adults. When working with kids, I am primarily focused on building emotional, behavioral, and regulatory skills to address behavioral and mental health concerns. I have experience in trauma work with children and play therapy for teens on the autism spectrum. With young adults, I am most interested in healing trauma and developing healthy coping skills for anxiety, depression, and other concerns. My practice is centered around creating space for neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ folks to feel safe and supported.
Clinical Approach:
In my work with children and teens, I am focused on creating safe, caring, and positive relationships to work though maladaptive responses and negative thought patterns. My practice is rooted in Dr. Gearity’s model of Developmental Repair, with a person-in-environment approach to holistic care. This involves working with caregivers and schools to support client needs and goals. I am here to meet my clients where they’re at without judgement. In working with adults, I practice under a strengths-based model incorporating aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My approach to our time together is based entirely on your needs, beginning with those of safety and belonging. My goal is to create an environment for my clients to be their full authentic selves and be met with compassion in return. This is where the true healing can begin.
Hobbies:
I love role-playing games, and run several Dungeons & Dragons games for my friends. I actually used to do so professionally in a therapeutically-applied setting! I also frequently go bouldering, and like to get outside for walks around Minneapolis. At the end of a long day, I can be found playing video games with my friends or in a blanket burrito with a good book.
