More About Cassandra Votaw

Clinical Interests:

I’m passionate about working with people facing serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI), as well as college students and teenagers dealing with life’s ups and downs. College can be overwhelming with academic pressure, identity struggles, and the onset of mental health challenges, and I love helping young adults navigate that. With teenagers, I know therapy doesn’t have to feel like a lecture; sometimes, a little humor and real conversation go a long way in making it a space where they actually want to open up. Whether I’m supporting someone through the challenges of SPMI or helping a young person find their footing, my goal is to create a space where they feel heard, supported, and capable of change.

Clinical Approach:

I’m passionate about helping clients understand the deeper reasons behind their struggles because I believe real change happens when we address the root of the problem, not just the surface-level symptoms. I use CBT and DBT to guide clients through unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors, while psychological assessments offer insight into their experiences. I’m especially drawn to attachment theory and trauma because our early experiences shape how we see ourselves and connect with others. My goal is not just to help clients build coping skills but to support them in making sense of their challenges in a way that feels validating and empowering.

Hobbies:

I have a lot of hobbies that help me unwind and stay connected to what I enjoy. Music is a big one for me, Brandon Lake’s powerful songs always lift my spirits, and NF’s lyrics really speak to me. I also love keeping up with hockey and diving into a good book when I need mental space. Pop culture is another interest of mine; I enjoy staying in the loop. Whether I’m listening to music, reading, or catching a game, these activities help me relax and stay grounded in the things I love.
