More About Deshann Sanchez
Clinical Interests:
I have worked in mental health for the past 6 years in everything from group homes, day treatment programs, to crisis centers.
My main interest is working with individuals who have experienced childhood and/or complex trauma – including racial trauma.
I am also interested in somatic therapies and the mind-body connection as it relates to trauma.
I have also developed an interest in working with people with ADHD and other neurodiversity needs.
I have a passion for working with BIPOC individuals and people who identify as LGBTQ+
During my time working in the mental health field. I have worked with both children (4-6 years old) and adults with severe mental illness and emotional dysregulation and have experience working with individuals experiencing Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, BPD, Bipolar I & II. Many of these also overlap with substance use.
Clinical Approach:
“All I’m doing is handing out sticks- you’re the one staying alive”
I believe that therapy is about accompanying someone on their individually defined journey towards healing and wholeness.
Utilizing trauma informed practices and Developmental Repair (developed by the Washburn Center for Children) – I believe that all behavior stems from attempting to meet unspoken needs and hopefully with the guidance of therapy, we can name and address these needs together and work towards including healthy behaviors and move away from any harmful behaviors.
Hobbies:
When I’m not working or in grad school, I enjoy spending time with my fiancé – eating good food (he’s a chef), camping, watching anime, and traveling!
Also spending time with our little fur family (2 Bernese Mountain Dogs & 1 calico cat to match).
