More About Dyani Saxby
Clinical Interests:
I am a board certified clinical health psychologist and fellow/ board member of the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology. This specialized training helps me understand how medical illness and chronic pain impact mood and ability to function in relationships, work, school, and hobbies. For example, some clients with medical issues and pain find themselves trapped in vicious cycles of pushing through on “better days” and then crashing and burning. This kind of cycle can worsen mood and anxiety, which then increases pain. I help clients break these kinds of cycles and live full lives despite their health problems. Further, I have an interest in trauma and the impact on physical health and sleep. I have seven years of working with clients who are struggling with sleep problems. Examples of sleep problems that I can treat include: insomnia, coping with hypersomnia, adjusting to sleep apnea machines, reducing intensity and frequency of nightmares, circadian rhythm disorders, and certain types of parasomnias such as sleep walking and sleep paralysis.
I am a seasoned psychologist and enjoy working with clients from all walks of life. I also have twelve years of experience in working with Veterans and health care workers. As a second generation Mexican-American woman, I have an appreciation of issues facing BIPOC communities. I offer an affirming approach for LGBTQIA + clients.
Clinical Approach:
I offer a highly collaborative approach to help clients reach their goals. My style is informed by evidence; yet flexible, down to earth, and caring. I draw from approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, behavioral activation, image rehearsal therapy, and EMDR. In addition, I integrate holistic methods such as clinical hypnosis and guided imagery when desired and appropriate. These holistic methods can facilitate change through deepening of self-awareness, helping clients relearn how to relax, and connecting with their highest values.
Hobbies:
I enjoy reading (Ruth Ware is a current favorite author), cooking, sewing, going to the arcade with my husband and daughter, and walking in nature.
