More About Emily Smolinski

Clinical Interests:

As a counselor, I am passionate about working with children, LGBTQ+ clients, and individuals seeking personal development. I am dedicated to fostering growth and resilience across diverse life experiences. I aim to create a safe, inclusive space where clients can explore their identities, navigate challenges, and achieve their personal goals with confidence and compassion.

Clinical Approach:

Emily Smolinski is a dedicated counseling intern specializing in narrative therapy, with a profound commitment to helping individuals reshape their personal stories and find empowerment through their own narratives. Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grand View University, Emily employs a narrative approach that encourages clients to explore and reframe their life stories, fostering greater self-understanding and resilience.

In addition to her expertise in narrative therapy, Emily is also working towards gaining a Play Therapy Certificate. This additional training enhances her ability to engage with young clients through creative and interactive methods that complement her narrative approach. By integrating play therapy techniques, Emily aims to create a more dynamic and supportive environment where clients can express themselves and address their challenges in innovative ways.

Emily’s therapeutic practice is centered on the belief that individuals are the authors of their own lives. By guiding clients to examine and reframe their personal narratives, she helps them gain new perspectives, identify their strengths, and rewrite their stories in alignment with their values and goals. This approach, combined with her developing skills in play therapy, allows Emily to build strong therapeutic relationships and foster a sense of agency and hope.

Hobbies:

In her private life, Emily Smolinski is a dedicated dog mom to her corgi, Bilbo. She is passionate about training her pup, hoping he can someday work alongside her as a therapy dog. He is also an expert in agility.

She also enjoys traveling abroad when she can and spending her evenings knitting and cooking new recipes.
