More About Emily Woodruff

Clinical Interests:

I have an ambition to help individuals integrate and heal from the effects of experiencing trauma. EMDR is a way we could proceed with this though I will defer to the wishes of each client.

I would like to help individuals discover and believe in their strengths and self-worth. So many are incorrectly taught from a young age that they are not enough. low-self esteem and perfectionism seem prevalent and cause great pain to individuals.

I have experience working with individuals who are struggling with substance abuse.

I have experience working with individuals struggling with eating disorders.

I have experiencing incorporating the theoretical perspectives of ACT and DBT into treatment.

Clinical Approach:

My heart lies in the somatic approaches, helping to develop awareness of the connection between the mind and the body. I believe in the effectiveness of EMDR and hope to utilize it to help many individuals find healing and peace after their experiences of trauma. I provide a judgement free safe space and view every individual as someone doing the best they can with the knowledge and tools they currently have. I endeavor to follow the needs of each client. If the individual finds skill work to be the most helpful we can focus on DBT and/or ACT skills. If a person feels they make the most progress when given an opportunity to verbally process their life situations, I’ll gladly engage in Socratic questioning and explore themes related to world view and identity development through conversation. If an individual finds meaning and value through art or music we can absolutely incorporate creativity into sessions.

If you become my client, I am here for you. I aspire to serve as a supportive facilitator as you engage on your journey of healing and personal growth.

Hobbies:

I love having adventures with my husband and kids. We go sledding in the winter. (The plan is to also go ice skating.) We love wandering a big dog park with our sweet dog. In warm weather I plan to go camping with my family. I’m excited about that.

I love to read both fiction and non-fiction. I enjoy drawing and singing just for fun.
