More About Erin McDyer
Everyone has different feelings about therapy. Some people are excited about it and jump at the opportunity to dive into the deepest parts of themselves, but some might find it nerve-racking, scary, or just straight up unpleasant. Maybe you’re nervous you’ll be told nothing is wrong with you or that you will be dismissed. Regardless of your feelings coming into therapy, my goal is the same: to create a space where you feel truly comfortable to express yourself, to be vulnerable, and where you feel heard and valued.
I believe that the client is the expert of their own experience, and I am just a tool to help them understand and to teach them how to help themselves, with whatever their problems may be. I use research-based methods and theories to guide my practice, but I am also very person-centered, which means that at the heart of every intervention, activity, or discussion we have, there is genuine empathy and care from me.
I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Auburn University (War Eagle) and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a certificate in Animal-Assisted Therapy from the University of North Florida. I have experience working with adolescents, young adults, and older adults in a university counseling center and an outpatient setting. I have worked with a wide range of concerns and have experience in individual, group, and couples counseling. In my free time I enjoy exploring St. Louis with my dog, taking care of my plants, running (love/hate relationship), and drawing.
“Dogtor” Cow is Erin’s therapy dog who accompanies her at the office on days when she is doing animal-assisted therapy.
If someone is not comfortable with having him present, accommodations will be made.
