More About Jillian Peterson

Clinical Interests:

I work with adults in outpatient therapy on a variety of mental health topics including anxiety, depression, trauma, transitions, and phobias.

I also spend my clinical time providing school based therapy at Denfeld High School and in the community. I work with adolescents, young adults and their families as they navigate traumatic past events, anxiety, depression, attachment difficulties, and substance use. I have prior experience partnering with birth and fostering families in community settings.

Clinical Approach:

I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), which is an eye movement and bilateral stimulation therapy that helps an individual work through difficult feelings, reactions, and memories. ART is a trauma therapy, but can be used to resolve a variety of challenges including phobias, anxiety, desired behavioral change, interpersonal conflict, trauma based triggers, and depression. This therapy intervention can be very effective, and participants may experience results after one session.

I am also trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and certified in the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach.

I would describe my clinical approach as a “partnering style” as I assist the individual to seek their own strengths and liberation. My approach is trauma informed and I frequently use motivational interviewing to encourage creativity and partnering to seek client-centered solutions. Due to my background in social work, I frequently use the humanistic/holistic perspective of healing and change.

I have experience working with non-speaking people, autistic/people with autism, and those who are neurodiverse.

Hobbies:

I love growing plants, gardening, curling, cross country skiing, ice cream eating, and Lake Superior watching.
