More About Kathleen Hector

Clinical Interests:

Hi there! I’m Kathleen. My journey with therapy began many years ago as an angsty teenager navigating sudden grief. Now, I’m both a therapist and a client (yes, therapists need their own therapists too!).

How I show up as a therapist is guided by the belief that life is much better when shared, and pain and grief are much more bearable when we aren’t facing them alone. We are the way we are for many reasons, though our relationships and lived experiences often shape us in ways we wish they didn’t. Through therapy, we can explore all of this together, so you can make the changes you’d like or receive the support you need to navigate the world.

I have experience providing therapy to immigrants and refugees at Casa de Salud, where I worked with clients from all over the world with challenges like anxiety, depression, PTSD, identity struggles, and trauma. I take a trauma-informed, mindful approach to therapy, which means I help clients feel safe and supported as they process difficult emotions, thoughts, and memories.

Clinical Approach:

I use a mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy approach (MBCBT) — a technique that helps people notice and manage unhelpful thoughts, while focusing on the present moment in a calm and grounded way. Additionally, I incorporate neuroscience and an understanding of the brain to help clients achieve their mental health goals.

Hobbies:

When I’m not in session, you can find me enjoying the outdoors, meeting new pets, reading, and traveling to new places. I have two wonderful cats at home — one of whom I got by accident, but I couldn’t be more grateful.
