More About Kayla Rossi
Clinical Interests:
I strive to deliver evidence based mental health care to individuals across all stages of life; Encompassing children/adolescents, adults, and the senior population. I have experience working with adults of all ages who experience chronic or acute mental health issues, adults who have sustained a traumatic or acquired brain injury, as well as children and adolescents experiencing mental health or behavioral health issues. By utilizing a person-centered approach that combines evidence-based practices with a holistic approach, my goal is to develop a unique therapeutic experience tailored to the client and their needs. I have knowledge and experience working with a variety of mental health disorders including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, mood disorders, stress-related disorders, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, and others.
Clinical Approach:
Through a strength based and person-centered approach, I aim to create a safe atmosphere where clients feel comfortable being vulnerable about the topics they choose to discuss. Choosing to seek therapy, whether for the first time or a refresher, can feel like a step into the unknown. I will walk with you into the unknown and support you in whatever challenges you may face while simultaneously encouraging autonomy and independence. I would be a good fit for you if you are looking for someone who utilizes humor, honesty, and warmth, in addition to evidence based therapeutic skills such as Motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, CBT techniques, DBT techniques, somatic therapy techniques, and others as necessary. Meeting you where you are at and encouraging you to be the best version of yourself is my ultimate goal with clients.
Hobbies:
Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, I moved to Iowa City in 2019 to finish my undergraduate degree. I am very passionate about social justice, self-education, and creative outlets. Creative outlets include painting, sewing, crocheting, ballet, and playing my violin. I enjoy playing my Nintendo switch, specifically Legend of Zelda games or Hogwarts Legacy. I am a UIowa Alum and love watching women’s basketball. In the summer I enjoy going on bike rides and appreciating the beauty of nature at places like Mcbride or Kent Park. I have 3 cats: Salem, Mango, and Mochi, and hope to acquire more as animals are important to me. I love plants and gardening and hope to incorporate that into my practice and become a horticultural therapist.
