More About Kevin Hooker
Clinical Interests:
My main clinical interest revolves mainly around sleep. I enjoy working with those who are having difficulty sleeping and may need some help concerning healthy sleep habits and learning how sleep ties into their mental health. Sleep is the foundation of good health overall and you would be surprised how little people know and what small things people typically do that harm their sleep! Outside of sleep, I enjoy working with couples and those who struggle with anxiety, depression, and pornography/sex addiction.
Clinical Approach:
My approach is very client-centered. I believe that you as the client know you best and as a therapist, it’s best if I walk alongside you during your journey to better mental health. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in conjunction with Solution Focused Therapy and some Dialectical Behavior Therapy but I believe meeting you where you’re at during sessions. I think it is important to understand how and why things work the way they do so that when you do implement the tools or skills you will learn in therapy, you’re more likely to keep using them. Therapy is all about the work you do outside of the session and I am here to equip you as best I can to deal with what ails you at every step of your life.
Hobbies:
The hobbies I have been enjoying the most lately are video games and chess. Things that get me thinking and strategizing are the most enjoyable! I will also listen to music, audiobooks, podcasts, and catch up on the newest sleep literature when I’m not spending time with my wife! I’m not a huge sports fan but I am from Colorado so I’ll be following the Broncos when football starts!
