More About Madeleine Ipsen
Clinical Interests:
I am particularly interested in working with trauma and providing trauma-informed care. I also work with LGBTQ+ individuals to provide gender- and sexually-affirming care; I also have experience assessing for and providing skills for ADHD. I work a lot with children and adolescents, but I also work with adults.
Clinical Approach:
In general, I take a humanistic, existential approach to therapy. I believe that the client is the expert of their experience and that my responsibility is to provide support, build skills, and assist in processing through one’s experiences. I adapt my approach to the needs of the client; for example, if a client is interested in using worksheets or homework, I am happy to provide those in addition to talk therapy. Additionally, I believe that creative approaches can help clients express feelings that are difficult to communicate with words, so I also utilize art therapy and play therapy.
Hobbies:
I enjoy playing music as well as attending concerts. I play guitar and piano and I am a classically-trained singer. I also enjoy practicing yoga and meditation. I love baking, especially challenging myself to learn more difficult things to bake. When I am able to, I love traveling. I have previously lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Vienna, Austria, and enjoy going back to visit my friends and loved ones. I also enjoy exploring new places.
