More About Meriel LaForce
Clinical Interests:
I have a variety of clinical interests, some of which are: ADHD/autism spectrum, anxiety disorders, attachment styles, career development, children/adolescents, college counseling, creative art therapies, depression/depressive disorders, empowerment and self-esteem, sexual orientation, gender identity, LGBTQ+ counseling, multicultural counseling, mindfulness, relationships/relationship issues, stress/stress management, PTSD and trauma, wellness, and work-life balance.
Clinical Approach:
I enjoy meeting clients where they are at. My clinical approach to counseling is mainly person-centered. I also use narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as secondary approaches. I often utilize CBT for implementing tangible coping skills. I also understand and recognize the importance of one’s individual experience and culture, so I also practice counseling with a multicultural approach. I speak both English and Spanish fluently, and I am happy to provide services in those languages. I think a client’s relationship with their therapist is crucial, and so I always seek to provide an open, welcoming, and safe space.
Hobbies:
Hello and welcome! My name is Meriel and I grew up in St. Paul, MN. I love animals and I love a good pink drink from Starbucks (guilty pleasure). I like advocating for causes important to me such as mental health awareness and social justice. In addition, I love to travel and hang out with my 5 pet guinea pigs. Some other interests of mine are painting, reading, taking short non-vigorous walks, and trying different foods since I am a foodie. If you’re familiar with the Myers-Briggs, I am an INFP personality type.
