More About Paul Brown
Clinical Interests:
I have enjoyed a varied career working as an outpatient mental health counselor in a rural community mental health center in Illinois and have lived and worked as a service provider in La Crosse for 24 years. I view myself as a generalist and have a great deal of experience working as an outpatient counselor with a variety of clients. I am fond of working with those who are affected by severe and persistent mental illness and have also worked in middle management many years as a supervisor of Community Support and Comprehensive Community Service programs in La Crosse, Vernon, and Crawford Counties. My interests are working with persons with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, matters of faith, couples counseling, and the Love & Logic approach to parenting skills.
Clinical Approach:
I would describe my clinical approach as relatively non-directive. I view clients as being the expert on themselves and will provide guidance utilizing a combination of motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy, verbal feedback, communication skill development, and self care.
Hobbies:
I have worked continuously within the field of behavioral health since graduating with my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. I moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin 33 years ago and made it my home. I am married with 3 children. We enjoy summers at the lake water water-skiing, boating, swimming, and relaxing with the kids. We enjoy downhill skiing in winter because you need something fun to do during those long Wisconsin winters. I have a pilot license and enjoy a flight now and then weather permitting.
