More About Sheila Sutherland
Clinical Interests:
I enjoy working with adolescents, teenagers, couples, and families from various backgrounds and a variety of mental health issues. Some of the most common issues I have worked with are Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).
Clinical Approach:
I utilize a mixture of cognitive behavioral therapy skills and techniques with motivational interviewing techniques, and Mindfulness as my approach to working with clients. I also believe that a strong client-provider therapeutic relationship can help guide the direction of services and goal outcomes. I incorporate DBT-related skills into my work, radical acceptance and distress tolerance. My goal when working with clients is to meet them at where they are at, incorporate skills and techniques that will benefit each client individually, and encourage habitual use of those skills for a better quality of life.
Hobbies:
I enjoy spending time outdoors with my dog and my children and grandchild.
